GLPS Families,

It was another great week here at GLPS! Now that we have been in school for over a month, we are fully settled into our routines, and student learning is in full swing across the district.

Here are a couple of additional updates and reminders for you this week:

  1. If you are not a Wacousta family, you probably have not seen the progress on the new Wacousta Elementary building project. And, even if you are a Wacousta family, you probably have only seen it at a distance. I had a chance to tour the job site today, and I am excited to share these pictures with you so you can see the progress. You will have to use your imagination in some instances, but the project is progressing on schedule. As a reminder, this is an active construction site and should be accessed by authorized personnel only. Please do not enter the construction zone for any reason. I will send periodic updates, though, so you can see the progress!
  1. Some of you, depending on your child’s building, have received communications regarding reported threats of one kind or another this school year. So, I thought this would be a good time to remind you that Grand Ledge Public Schools takes any school threat very seriously. If we receive word that any kind of threat was made, either against a school or individual, we immediately work with law enforcement and follow our threat assessment protocol. This protocol is used in all of our buildings and throughout Eaton County, and it always involves law enforcement. We sent this letter from Prosecutor Lloyd’s office to families last fall, and I am sending it again here as a reminder that we take these issues seriously.
  1. I want to share a great resource that comes to us through a partnership between the Michigan Department of Education and the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity called Pathfinder. This project links resources for families around career, college, and post secondary opportunities for students of all ages. Please click here to view the Pathfinder resource page; it is never too early to begin talking with your student about what they want to do after high school!

Finally, as I mentioned last week, I am interested in hearing from you about what types of communications you would like to receive from me. I would appreciate it if you took just a minute to fill out this one question survey to help guide my communication with you.

Thank you; that is all I have for this week. As always, I appreciate your support and the opportunity to work with you and your students every day, and I am #proudtobeacomet!
